Coty Pinckney's Development Economics Page

My primary interests in economics are rural development, inequality and growth, and human capital.

Here are pdf files of a couple of papers from 1999:

Equity, Savings, and Growth. Nancy Birdsall, Thomas C. Pinckney, and Richard H. Sabot, September, 1999. Revised and resubmitted to Economic Journal.

Natural Resources, Human Capital, and Growth. Nancy Birdsall, Thomas C. Pinckney, and Richard H. Sabot, September, 1999. Prepared for a WIDER project on Resource Abundance and Growth, organized by Richard Auty. To be published in book form in the first half of 2000.

Finally, here is book-length manuscript written with Peter Kimuyu entitled Policy and Rural Development: Two Communities in East Africa. The book examines outcomes for well-being in two similar communities in Kenya and Tanzania, investigating to what extent the differences in the communities are explainable by the marked policy differences between those countries in the first three decades after independence. Chapters include investigations of income and asset distribution, health and nutrition, land markets, dairy development, tree markets, and human capital, among others.

The first page is html, with links to pdf files for the various chapters.
